چکیده

Our study focuses on European loess sequences, particularly the eolian intervals in between observed pedogenic units. The classical concept of soil formation from parent material is reformulated to estimate duration and associated sedimentation rate (SR) mass accumulation (MAR) these paleodust intervals. We show that Greenland Stadial (GS) deposits includes thickness overlying unit, which fact developed downward into upper part unit. lower stratigraphical limit unit corresponds restart dust younger GS. illustrate this interpretation first by computing both SRs MARs for Nussloch key sequence, most complete series. correlation other located along a 1800 km longitudinal transect, allows computation SR MAR several identified GS events. Comparing marine ice core records, our shows two last Bond cycles are preserved every record. Bulk estimated compared cycles, showing highest western Europe. These indices also indicate stadials, embedding an Henrich event, were not dustiest cycle. differ previously published computations, did take account various units present studied sequences. bulk estimates computed Cycles Chinese sequences Loess Plateau atmospheric than Europe during Last Glacial Maximum. fine-grained records fit with Earth System model reconstructions.

How cold was the Last Glacial Maximum?

[1] We present a new approach to estimate the magnitude of global-mean cooling (dTLGM) at the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) relative to the pre-industrial climate, by combining an ensemble of coupled climate model simulations with empirical constraints on regional cooling inferred from proxy data. We have generated a large ensemble of paired runs ( 100) for pre-industrial and LGMboundary condition...

The Last Glacial Maximum.

We used 5704 14C, 10Be, and 3He ages that span the interval from 10,000 to 50,000 years ago (10 to 50 ka) to constrain the timing of the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) in terms of global ice-sheet and mountain-glacier extent. Growth of the ice sheets to their maximum positions occurred between 33.0 and 26.5 ka in response to climate forcing from decreases in northern summer insolation, tropical Pac...

Regional atmospheric circulation over Europe during the Last Glacial Maximum and its links to precipitation

The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) exhibits different large-scale atmospheric conditions compared to present-day climate due to altered boundary conditions. The regional atmospheric circulation and associated precipitation patterns over Europe are characterized for the first timewith a weather typing approach (circulation weather types, CWT) for LGM paleoclimate simulations. The CWT approach is app...

How cold was Europe at the Last Glacial Maximum? A synthesis of the progress achieved since the first PMIP model-data comparison

The Last Glacial Maximum has been one of the first foci of the Paleoclimate Modelling Intercomparison Project (PMIP). During its first phase, the results of 17 atmosphere general circulation models were compared to paleoclimate reconstructions. One of the largest discrepancies in the simulations was the systematic underestimation, by at least 10C, of the winter cooling over Europe and the Medit...
